Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry to represent Ireland at Tokyo Olympics

It has been confirmed that Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry will represent Ireland at this summer's Olympics.

The pair have been named in the men's golf team for the Games in Tokyo

McIlroy and Lowry did not take part in Rio five years ago. Back in 2016 Ireland were represented by Seamus Power and Padraig Harrington Ireland who finished 15th and 21st respectively.

A number of the world's top players have declined to compete in Tokyo, including Dustin Johnson, Louis Oosthuizen, Matt Fitzpatrick and Lee Westwood.

Meanwhile, Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow look set to be named as Ireland women's players for the second Olympics in a row.

The men's competition will take place from July 29 to August 1, with the women's running from August 4-7, both at the Kasumigaseki Country Club.
