Rory Cowan believes he was snubbed by I'm A Celebrity bosses after revealing diabetes diagnosis

Rory Cowan says he believes ITV bosses snubbed him after entering talks to appear on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! after he told them he had Type 2 diabetes.

The actor, best known for his role on Mrs Brown's Boys, confirmed that he was approached by bosses of the hit ITV show to see if he was interested in taking part.

But Rory was diagnosed with the illness when he came back from his holiday in Israel last year, having already been in talks with producers.

"I realised in Israel I had a health issue," he said.

"I noticed that there was something wrong with my eyes and when I came home, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes."

"I got onto the I'm A Celeb people and told them I have Type 2 diabetes and I haven't heard anything back."

Mrs Brown's Boys star Rory Cowan to record duet with singer Brian Kennedy to raise money for cancer charity

Rory told the Irish Daily Star: "I have to eat regularly. You have to live on 600 calories per day and with diabetes you've to be on 2,000 or 3,000. That couldn't work for me.

"I could've been. They never made any decision but I met them the day before I went to Israel. They probably thought I was no use to them."

60-year-old Rory had previously said that former co-star Brendan O'Carroll told him he would make a great jungle campmate.

Rory said: "At the end of 2016, Brendan O'Carroll had just done Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway as Mrs Brown. I was having a cup of tea with him and he asked if I'd do the jungle."

"I said not really - to go there to sit in a hammock, eat kangaroo testicles and shower in a waterfall isn't for me. But he said Ant and Dec told him they'd love me on it, so I don't know."

Rory Cowan still gets paid tens of thousands of euros in royalties for Mrs Brown's Boys
