Rory Burns 'fed up' of title talk as Surrey claim first win of Championship defence

Rory Burns was relieved as Surrey finally secured the first win of their Championship title defence at the seventh time of asking.

They beat Warwickshire by 74 runs yesterday after some inspired work from Sam Curran saw them take the final six wickets for 25.

Warwickshire looked to be cruising to victory when Curran dismissed Adam Hose and Matt Lamb in the same over.

A brilliant run-out from Scott Borthwick, a fine caught and bowled from Morne Morkel and two Gareth Batty wickets completed the job.

It was an impressive win as Surrey had given away a first-innings deficit of 36 after being bowled out for 194.

Captain Burns was not getting carried away, though, with a visit to Yorkshire waiting on Sunday.

“I’m very pleased to win at last,” he said. “It’s a satisfied dressing room, but the games are coming thick and fast.

“I’m a bit fed up of hearing about last year. We keep talking about it, but we haven’t been doing our processes as well as we can do.”
