Bears rookie Roquan Smith's Bears team iPad and his Georgia Bulldogs national championship jersey were among several items stolen from his car over the weekend.
Smith, whom the Bears drafted in the first round less than two weeks ago, reported the theft to Athens-Clarke County (Ga.) police Saturday morning and said he believed the items were taken from his 2018 BMW X5 outside The Mark Athens apartment complex between 5 p.m. Friday and 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
There were no signs of forced entry and police have no suspects, Athens-Clarke public information officer Epifanio Rodriguez told the Tribune Monday.
Bears Vice President of Communications Brandon Faber said via email Monday that the team "immediately wiped" all information from the password-protected iPad. "There was no compromise of Bears (information) and Roquan was not injured," Faber said.
Smith is expected to attend Bears rookie minicamp at Halas Hall, which starts Friday.
Among the items stolen from Smith's car:
_ An iPad belonging to the Bears (there were no additional details about what was on the tablet).
_ A 2017 national championship jersey.
_ A 2017 Rose Bowl jersey.
_ Two watches.
_ Shoes.
_ Smith's 2017 regular-season helmet and jersey.
_ Headphones.
_ A Bluetooth speaker.
A woman who identified herself as Smith's aunt made a plea on Twitter for information about the theft or for the return of Smith's belongings.
Shaquwanda Baker wrote Saturday, "Dawg Nation my nephew Roquan Smith has worked sooo hard to play in his UGA jersey and helmet and to one day take it off and hang it on his wall. However, over the past few hours someone took that away from him by wrongfully taking these items from his property in Athens. My prayer is that the person who committed the crime will deal with their issues and that anyone who knows of information related to this crime will report it immediately to the Athens Police Dept.
"There were a lot of items taken but none more to his heart than his UGA Jerseys and helmet.
"Thanks for your support and for (spreading) this unpleasant news with hopes of finding the person who did this."
On Smith's official Facebook page, the linebacker posted an image of Baker's tweet Saturday and "Need your help to spread the word, please!"
