"Rooster" is the latest comedy from Bill Lawrence, the mind behind "Scrubs" and co-creator of feel-good Apple TV shows like "Ted Lasso" and "Shrinking," and that resume should give you a rough idea of what to expect from his new HBO Max show. As Josh Bell put it in our "Rooster" season 1 review, this new arrival sees Lawrence and his co-creator Matt Tarses assembling "another cast of flawed but likable misfits" for a "comfortingly familiar dramedy." The Steve Carell-fronted series premiered on March 8, and has so far won praise from plenty of critics — it's 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, at the time of writing — and all signs point to it being a great addition to your weekend watchlist, if you're yet to check it out. What is 'Rooster' about?
If you need a little more info about HBO Max's newest comedy series before you dive in, here's a quick rundown of what the show entails. "Rooster" is a ten-part comedy that follows Greg Russo (Steve Carell), the divorced novelist behind the "Rooster" novels. He takes a writer-in-residence job at Ludlow, a liberal arts college where his daughter, Katie (Charly Clive), teaches history. Greg never went to college, so he sets about getting to grips with the experience, his job, and also trying to bond with and support Katie, who's reeling from her own relationship woes. In addition to Carell and Clive, "Rooster" also features John C. McGinley, Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, Lauren Tsai, Connie Britton, and Scott MacArthur.
