Roon the Toon returns as runners get set to take over Kilmarnock's town centre

Runners are getting set to take over Kilmarnock’s town centre once again this summer.

The 10k road race, Roon the Toon, will return on Sunday, June 11 at 10am for its seventh year.

Runners will start from the Ayrshire Athletics Arena and the course will follow: Queens Drive – Welbeck Street – Old Mill Road – Fowlds Street - St Marnock Street – Dundonald Road – Holmes Road – U34 – Dundonald Road – John Finnie Street – West George Street – Portland Street – The Cross – King Street – Fowlds Street – Old Mill Road – Welbeck Street – Queens Drive - Ayrshire Athletics Arena.

The course is fast and is suited to both novices and runners who are aiming to set a personal best. The fastest runners are expected to finish the course in around 30 minutes.

In addition to the foot race, the event also features a wheelchair race for racing chairs and running frames plus a Stroller Roll which allows entrants pushing prams, buggies or wheelchairs to compete (self-propelled wheelchair users compete in the main race).

The affected roads will be closed from 9am until 12 noon and signed diversions will be in place for the duration of the event.

Access to the electric vehicle charging hub at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena will be severely restricted.

Roon the Toon has been organised by the Kilmarnock Harriers in partnership with East Ayrshire Council, the Ayrshire Roads Alliance and East Ayrshire Leisure.
