Room Mate hotel chain spreading cost of stay to ease tourists' cash pressures

A hotel group is giving holidaymakers the chance to spread the cost of their stay ahead of UK Covid travel restrictions being eased.

The next group of countries earmarked for the UK Government's green list for quarantine-free travel will be announced within weeks and various nations, including Spain, hope to be included.

Now, the Room Mate Group wants to make it easier for everyone to travel after the pressures of the pandemic.

The chain, which has properties in resorts popular with UK tourists, including Magaluf and Malaga, introduces its new flexible payment option next month. It also has outlets in the USA and Italy.

Operated by Scandinavian financial group, Klarna, guests will be able to split their bookings into up to three interest-free instalments

Customers will make the first payment at check out, the second payment within the next 30 days and the last payment after 60 days.

Kike Sarasola, president and founder of Room Mate Group, said: "When I first discovered Klarna I knew that we should work together.

"At a crucial time for tourism, we hoteliers must provide all the facilities that are in our power to bring back the excitement of travelling. Being able to pay for bookings in instalments is an important innovation for the tourism sector."

Daniel Espejo, manager of Klarna in Spain, added: "Room Mate Group is undoubtedly a benchmark brand in the hotel world.

"We are convinced that the ease and flexibility that Pay in 3 instalments interest free will bring will fit perfectly with the great people-centric experience that characterises Room Mate.

"In doing so, we also hope that it will encourage more and more people to book in these challenging times for the travel industry”.

Room Mate was founded in Spain in 2005 and has 28 hotels – with another 10 openings in the pipeline.
