RookieWire: Theo Maledon enters top 10 of rookie power rankings

RookieWire’s weekly power ranking takes a look at how rookies are currently playing. It’s not a ranking for Rookie of the Year Award purposes, but instead gives recognition to who is performing well from week to week.

In the final edition, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Theo Maledon got onto the list.

Analyst Cody Taylor is impressed with how the No. 34 overall pick has played in his first season in the league and in the United States.

“The second-round pick has emerged as a key contributor this season after entering the starting lineup full time at the end of January. In 42 games as a starter, Maledon averaged 11.4 points, 3.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 30.1 minutes.”

This isn’t Maledon’s first time on the list. He and Aleksej Pokusevski have both appeared in prior rankings.

This week, Maledon was ninth. He was not ranked last week.

Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball also got back onto the list after falling off while he was injured. In seven games since returning from his wrist fracture, he has posted 15.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game on 40% shooting from the field.

Minnesota Timberwolves wing Anthony Edwards is at the top of the list once again. He reached 42 points in a game for the second time this season, and over the past week, he averaged 27.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and five assists.

With only two games remaining on the schedule, this is the final RookieWire power ranking. Next up will be the actual Rookie of the Year award and the All-Rookie teams.
