The Oakland Raiders have wrapped up the second game of their four-game preseason schedule and today’s it’s time to review how their 2019 rookie class performed. So without further ado, here are the grades from the Cardinals’ game for every draft pick from the 2019 draft class.
DE Clelin Ferrell: C+
Clelin Ferrell’s second game in his NFL, his performance was up-and-down. One of his best plays was chasing down Kyler Murray on a play-action bootleg and forcing the incompletion. However, Ferrell was called for two penalties, on the first drive of the game. Luckily for him, the Raiders were able to get off the field. Overall, it wasn’t a bad performance by the No. 4 pick.
RB Josh Jacobs: A+
After not playing in the first game of the preseason, first-round pick Josh Jacobs saw his first preseason action. Jacobs saw three-straight carries on the opening drive of the game and was highly impressive, displaying power and decisive running. Jacobs finished the game with 21 yards on four carries as he helped lead the Raiders on a touchdown drive.
SS Johnathan Abram: B+
After only making a short appearance in Week 1, No. 27 overall pick Johnathan Abram was significantly better in Week 2. His best play of the game came on the Cardinals’ second drive of the game, where Abram made a tackle at the line of scrimmage against All-Pro running back David Johnson.
Abram continues to impress as he works with the Raiders’ starters. At this point in the preseason, it seems like a given that he will open up the season as the team’s Week 1 starter at strong safety.
CB Trayvon Mullen: N/A
Despite not having an injury of note, second-round pick Trayvon Mullen did not suit up on Thursday night. Mullen is currently competing with Daryl Worley for the No. 2 cornerback job, so it will be interesting to find out over the next couple of days why he didn’t play.
DE Maxx Crosby: N/A
As seen on HBO’s Hard Knocks, Crosby suffered a broken hand in last week’s preseason game that required surgery. While he hasn’t been ruled out for next weeks game, the fourth-round pick was unable to suit up this week against the Cardinals.
CB Isaiah Johnson: N/A
Like Crosby, Johnson was injured in last weeks game and was unable to participate in this week’s matchup. While Johnson appears to have a solid chance of making the 53-man roster, he is running out of time to impress the coaches as he is dealing with a concussion.
TE Foster Moreau: C+
With Darren Waller back in the lineup, Foster Moreau fell down the depth chart. However, there were times he played with the first and second string offense as the “second” tight end on the field. While Moreau didn’t catch a pass, he was solid in the run game. Look for Moreau to find a role as the No. 2 tight end in Oakland this season.
WR Hunter Renfrow: B
After being shut-out in the first game of his career, Hunter Renfrow made a few big plays tonight for Oakland. His first reception came on a broken play that went for 19 yards. His second reception converted a third-down. After those two early receptions, Renfrow didn’t see the field much after that. But look for the former National Champion to produce more once we get to the regular season.
DE Quinton Bell: F
Quinton Bell played almost exclusively in the fourth quarter for the Raiders, but he failed to produce a stat. His worse play of the game came late in the game, where he ran into the punter, giving the Cardinals a first down.
It’s pretty clear that Bell is an athlete, but he has no real plan as a pass-rusher. Bell isn’t ready to help this Raiders’ team in 2019 and might need a year or two on the practice squad to learn the position.
