Rookie OT Max Scharping brings Green Bay work ethic to Texans

Houston Texans rookie offensive lineman Max Scharping made it to the NFL, but the hard work doesn’t stop when drafted. To stay in the league, the Green Bay, Wisconsin, native must instill a work ethic his coaches can rave about; it turns out, he’s doing just that.

“He’s a straight shooter,” coach Bill O’Brien told reporters Monday. “He’s in the building at 5:30, he’s one of the first ones to get in and one of the last ones to leave. He’s got a great routine already. He’s just a rookie, but you can tell it’s very important to him”

Scharping is beginning to build that blue-collar work ethic brand, a trait of Green Bay, in Houston.

Said O’Brien: “He’s that type of guy, he’s got a very workman-like approach to how he does things and we’re happy to have him.”

Instilling a good work ethic is the beginning of his Texans career, but he has to keep it up throughout it.

“He’s doing a really good job for us,” O’Brien said, but “he’s just got to keep it going, I think for any rookie, they have to continue to keep getting better day in and day out.”

The Texans don’t yet know where Scharping will line up. In training camp, he’s split time between right tackle and right guard. Nonetheless, the head coach reaffirms that Scharping has “got a real good future” for the team.
