Rookie LB David Long a player to watch as Titans move through preseason

Tennessee Titans rookie linebacker David Long is a player to keep an eye on as the team heads through the last two games of the preseason.

He had a successful Saturday night outing against the New England Patriots, though the team ultimately fell 22-17.

Long finished out as leader on defense, recording a team high of eight tackles, along with a quarterback hit.

He saw 60 snaps on defense and 13 snaps on special teams.

The sixth-rounder has impressed with his raw ability so far, but there’s definitely still some fine-tuning to do.

Head coach Mike Vrabel made this clear in Sunday’s presser.

“But I think the one thing that we recognize is that he is instinctive and he will run and he will tackle, and those are things that are sometimes hard to coach,” he explained. “So now we just have to coach him and he has to be receptive of the coaching on some of the details.”

At West Virginia, Long recorded 250 tackles, 40 for loss and one forced fumble over 35 games.

The Titans will look for continued improvement from Long as they face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Aug. 25 at 7:00 p.m. CT in Nissan Stadium.
