Spring camp has passed and training camp is still weeks away, so now is the time for unproven rookies to put in extra work and make every effort they can to lock down a roster spot by the time cut day comes in August.
For Washington Redskins seventh-round pick, LB Jordan Brailford, an offseason of hard work will just be icing on top of his already impressive accomplishments.
He may not be the most well known rookie on the team, and he may not even be the most well known seventh-round pick in Washington — see: Jimmy Moreland — but Brailford put up some stats in his time in college that should have the Redskins coaching staff encouraged.
Brailford led the Big 12 in sacks in 2018, racking up 10 while at Oklahoma State University. He also given first-team all-conference honors. After the season, Brailford had a standout performance in the East-West Shrine Game, making his presence felt on the defensive line.
It was likely that performance that boosted his draft stock and let Brailford find himself on a team once April rolled through.
“I think it helped a lot,” Brailford said, via Redskins.com. “It showed that I can take coaching and apply it in a short amount of time. I made some big plays there and got to get a lot more exposure than I would have without it.”
Now, Brailford, once again has a short amount of time to take what he learned in OTAs and Minicamp and show coaches that he can build his skill-set and prove to be a valuable asset on the defense. The Redskins are lacking depth at the linebacker position, so if Brailford can prove he’s worth the roster spot, he could be crucial in Washington’s future.
