Rookie DK Metcalf adjusting to speed of the game, life in the NFL

Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf got some friendly advice from teammate Bobby Wagner before his first regular-season press conference at the podium Wednesday afternoon: “Say the right things, and don’t forget to mention that the vets take care of him.”

Metcalf, who scored his career-first touchdown Sunday, was asked if anything surprised him over his first two NFL outings.

“Pretty much the speed of the game,” Metcalf replied. “I’m catching on to it a little bit better each week. I’m trying to get a little bit better every week with the team, learn new stuff from different DBs that I’m facing. So, I think it’s surprising that I’m picking up the game a little better each week.”

Adjusting to life in the NFL hasn’t been all about football though, Metcalf is also having to find new ways to entertain himself now that his college classes are in the books.

“I’ve got a lot more time now that I don’t have class anymore,” Metcalf explained. “Like I said, Bobby, Russ [Wilson], and Duane Brown really helped me adjust to that. They told me to find a hobby or try to take care of your body any chance you get so, that’s what I’ve been doing.”

Metcalf said that he picked up the electric guitar briefly, but that it required “too much learning.” For now, it’s back to playing Fortnite and studying the Seahawks playbook.
