Roof collapses after huge fire rips through Northumberland home

Firefighters spent more than six hours at the scene of a huge blaze which ripped through a Northumberland home.

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service were called to Marlow Street in Blyth at around 8.30pm on Friday with crews working tirelessly through the night to bring the blaze under control.

Six appliances were initially dispatched to the scene and they were joined by the aerial ladder platform.

Marlow Street and a section of the A193 were cordoned off as crews fought the flames coming from the terraced home.

Firefighters tackled the blaze for hours from above the burning building and at ground level with the property's roof collapsing as a result of the incident.

There were no occupants in the house at the time of the fire with no injuries reported.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze and left the scene at around 2.45am.

A Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We received a call at 8.30pm on Friday to reports of a house fire on Marlow Street in Blyth.

"We dispatched six appliances and an aerial ladder platform to the scene.

"There were no occupants in the property at the time of the fire.

"As crews were tackling the fire the roof collapsed at the property.

"We managed to extinguish the fire with the last of our crews leaving the scene at 2.45am.

"We will have crews attending at various times this morning to check for flare-ups.
