Ronny Deila on verge of huge move as he refuses to rule out leaving Standard Liege

Former Celtic boss Ronny Deila has moved a step closer to being headhunted by Club Brugge after refusing to pledge his future to his current club in Belgium, Standard Liege.

The former Celtic boss has been widely praised after a fine first season in the Belgian top flight.

Struggling Club Brugge axed former Bournemouth and Fulham manager Scott Parker after just 67 days earlier this month following a Champions League hammering from Benfica and a dismal season.

And Norwegian Deila is reportedly Brugge's No.1 target to replace him, with the big-spending club able to offer a bumper budget compared to Standard.

Deila said: "There are a lot of rumours in the world of football. Did my agent have contact with Brugge? I don't know, I haven't talked about that with him yet.

"I have a contract until 2025 and I see no reason to leave, but you never know what can happen in football. I could easily be sacked in two weeks!

"The most important thing is that I'm happy here and that the team has made good progress since my arrival. I go to training every day with a smile and we are on the right track.

"We've improved a lot. But compared to the expectations of a club like Standard, It is insufficient. We need to invest more so that we can continue to move forward and meet our objectives.

"There is a lot of instability in the team because there are players on loan who we don't know if we will keep. This creates a lot of uncertainty in view of next season.

"If we take players who are not better than the ones we have, we will be in a difficult situation."
