Ronnie O'Sullivan blames snooker referee as legend denies match interrupting fart

Fingers were pointed in Ronnie O'Sullivan's Northern Ireland Open match with Matthew Stevens - after someone in the empty arena picked an opportune time to break wind.

O'Sullivan is at the top of his game at present and continues to capture the attention of snooker fans worldwide with his quick wit.

The defending world champion was in the early stages of his encounter with the English player when the serene atmosphere was suddenly interrupted.

'Break' is a common term in snooker, but doesn't often refer to 'breaking wind.'

Yet that is exactly what happened in one of the early frames. And in an empty arena, the culprits were limited.

Ronnie, however, initially dodges responsibility. Pointing the finger at the match official, he insisted he was not to blame for bringing the game into disrepute.

The world number two sported his usual cheeky grin as he then regained his composure to win the best-of-seven encounter by four frames to two.

After the match, however, he owned up.

“I dropped my guts – I am taking full ownership of that," he said. "I have had stomach problems for a couple of months.

“I did say ‘Was that you’ to the referee but I am proud of that one.

“As for the table – it is the heaters and the effect on the cloth. It is like taking clothes to the dry cleaners and they do them on too high a heat.”
