Ronnie Harrison says he’s ‘blending pretty well’ with Jarrod Wilson in the Jags’ backfield

When second-year safety Ronnie Harrison takes the field as a starter this regular season, he won’t be alone in terms of learning the ropes as a full-time starter. His dance partner at the safety position, Jarrod Wilson, will also be learning about the process of being a full-time starter as both will be replacing veterans Barry Church and Tashaun Gipson.

So far, the two are off to a good start in organized team activities and have developed a strong sense of chemistry according to Harrison, who spent a little time on the field last season with Wilson.

“We worked together a little bit last year and we’re blending pretty well,” Harrison said via the Florida Times-Union. “We’re both smart guys and we love to talk and communicate. I think it’s going great.”

The ability to communicate and play smart football is going to be exactly what the two young players need to replace both Gipson and Church who exited their careers with 75 starts combined during their Jags tenures. At the respective ages of 22 and 24, Harrison and Wilson could top that number if they play to their potential.

Wilson, who has been with the Jags since 2016, says the feeling is mutual in terms of how the two communicate. Additionally, he likes the versatility and size both bring to the table, which could potentially bring them more success than the veterans before them.

“We have a lot of similarities,” Wilson said. “We’re both long, we can both play on the back end an we can both play on the line of scrimmage. And we communicate really well.”

It won’t be long before fans get to see the two in person and gauge their chemistry as training camp will be here before we know it. After that, they will certainly see their share of tests with a challenging regular season schedule that includes notables like the Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons.
