Ronda Rousey jabs Floyd Mayweather Jr. with domestic violence joke

July 16--Ronda Rousey doesn't pull any punches, even when she's on the red carpet accepting an award.

The undefeated MMA fighter received the ESPY for best fighter before the start of Wednesday's ESPY Awards ceremony in Los Angeles over Floyd Mayweather Jr.

But in typical fighter fashion, winning the award wasn't enough; Rousey needed to land another jab.

"I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once," said Rousey, making a pointed reference to Mayweather's history of domestic violence.

Mayweather has been arrested and pleaded guilty to multiple counts of domestic violence and battery against women over the years. He also has been asked whether he could beat Rousey in a fight, a question he deflected by saying he didn't know who the fighter was.

"I'd like to see him pretend to not know who I am now," added Rousey, staring directly into the camera with a smile.

The victories for Rousey didn't end with that burn. She later won the award for best female athlete.

"I really want to thank all the women that are nominees and all the women here for being the change you want to see in the world," Rousey said in accepting her award. "Mostly, I want to thank my mom, who, you did so much and put up with so much for me to get here, and I really appreciate it."

Rousey will next fight Aug. 1, when she takes on Bethe Correia (9-0) in her home country of Brazil in UFC 190. In her last fight, Rousey (11-0) beat Cat Zingano (9-1) in record-setting 14 seconds.

Mayweather (48-0) is narrowing his list of potential opponents for a Sept. 12 fight, which could be his last time in the ring.
