Ronan O'Gara promoted to top job at La Rochelle after signing contract extension

Ronan O'Gara has signed a three-year contract extension with La Rochelle which will see him take sole charge of the team.

The Munster and Ireland legend has been head coach at the French side since 2019, but with Jono Gibbes leaving his director of rugby role to coach Clermont,  O'Gara will be in charge on his own.

The Cork man said: "I am extremely proud of the trust that Stade Rochelais continues to show me by appointing me as the head of the team.

"I am obviously very excited about next season, but first, we have important challenges ahead of us and above all a good season to end in the best possible way."

La Rochelle face Leinster in the semi-finals of the Champions Cup next weekend.
