Ronan Keating opens up about scariest flight of life after 'getting €130,000' to headline festival

Boyzone star Ronan Keating was reportedly paid over €100,000 to headline a music festival in Romania, but had to go through a torturous journey to get there.

According to local media reports, the Dubliner was paid around €130,000 to perform at the Cerbul de Aur (Golden Stag) festival in the city of Brasov on August 24.

And while it's reported he made a pretty penny performing at the event, he joked to his audience that he nearly didn't make it there after a rough plane journey.

After learning that his crew had spent four-and-a-half hours driving from Bucharest to Brasov, Keating decided to rent out a private plane to avoid the long trip.

The plane turned out to be a lot smaller than he expected and he joked to revellers that he was nervous about the flight.

According to Digifm.ro, Keating said: “The guys in my crew came yesterday (e.n. August 23) but it took them four hours and a half to come by car from Bucharest; so I said to myself ‘I won’t do that.

"I rented a plane and flew in today, it took only 40 minutes. But it was a much smaller plane than I expected.

"I don’t think I was ever this scared in my life, especially when we were above the mountains."

Keating revealed that while the scenery beneath him was spectacular, he was terrified during the flight.

He said: "It is magnificent, it is beautiful, but I was so afraid.

“At one point, the pilot decided to tilt the plane to one side so I can look at the mountains better. It wasn’t a very good idea.

“But here I am, right and unharmed.

“It is an honour and a joy for us that a star of the international music scene will be the first person to officially land on the runway of Brasov Ghimbav International Airport.”

The Irish Mirror has contacted Keating's representatives in relation to the fee he reportedly received for performing at the festival.
