Brazil legend Ronaldo has backed Gabriel Martinelli to star for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup.

The Arsenal forward was included in Tite’s squad for this winter’s tournament in Qatar but made only one start as the Selecao fell to yet another quarter-final exit.

Martinelli, who has reportedly decided to sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium, has been in fine form at club level this season.

The 21-year-old has scored 5 goals in 14 Premier League appearances, helping lead Mikel Arteta’s surprise title push.

While Brazil’s frontline is full of options, there could be a major refresh heading into the next World Cup.

Joint-record goalscorer Neymar has previously suggested Qatar would be his last World Cup and new management could lead to more changes.

Martinelli made his international debut in March and has since won six caps, after playing a key role in Brazil’s Olympics win in 2020 at U23 level.

Speaking to Apostagolos, Ronaldo said: “He is definitely a great asset, is developing wonderfully at Arsenal and showed his potential in the group stage in Qatar."

"He will certainly stand out at the 2026 World Cup.

"We are very excited about him.

"What impresses me the most is that he plays with a lot of passion and self-confidence."
