Ronaldo storms down tunnel, McTominay's gesture and other moments missed in Manchester United draw

Michael Carrick ended his spell as Manchester United's caretaker manager with a 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

United looked devoid of confidence prior to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking, but Carrick helped boost morale after the Norwegian's departure and he inspired the Reds to win against Villarreal in midweek before he led United to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Jadon Sancho's goal in that game gave United the advantage, but Chelsea soon struck back when converting from the spot.

That draw means United are still 12-points behind the Premier League leaders, Chelsea, and Ralf Rangnick, who seems set to be officially appointed as Solskjaer's interim successor on Monday, has plenty of work to do in the weeks ahead.

United's point at Chelsea was a respectable result and the German will look to take positives from the match, though.

Here are the moments from the game at Chelsea that you might have missed...

Ronaldo storms down the tunnel

Cristiano Ronaldo didn't start against Everton in October and he stormed down the tunnel after that game. While some argued that was unwarranted, United were fortunate to get a point on that occasion and Ronaldo's reaction was understandable, however, Ronaldo charged down the tunnel again after the full-time whistle at Chelsea and that was certainly uncalled for.

It has been a tumultuous week at United and Sunday's draw was a result that many would have taken in the circumstances.

Ronaldo's omission from the starting XI was a talking point before the game, but the 36-year-old has to accept that he won't start every game this season despite his brilliance - Ronaldo has already scored many decisive goals this term - when he's selected.

There was a child in the front row with a banner asking for Ronaldo's shirt and they watched as their idol stormed off the pitch.

McTominay's brilliant gesture

There is no obligation for the players to address United's away support, but it sometimes makes for heartwarming moments when they do. That child didn't get Ronaldo's shirt, but he didn't return home empty-handed thanks to Scott McTominay.

With Ronaldo already in the dressing room, McTominay flung his shirt in the away end towards that exact same child.

The midfielder delivered another energetic performance on Sunday and his gesture after the game was incredibly classy.

Sancho's celebration

The real Jadon Sancho has arrived at Manchester United. The 21-year-old made a slow start to life at United following his £72.9m switch from Borussia Dortmund this summer, but he's now on the right track to elevate his Old Trafford career after a brilliant week.

Sancho scored his first United goal against Villarreal and he scored his second just five days later against Chelsea. While Sancho's goal on Sunday was relatively straightforward considering the Reds' numerical advantage against Edouard Mendy, the winger demonstrated his confidence when expertly slotting home instead of passing to Marcus Rashford, who appeared the safe option.

United claimed Sancho had 'returned home' when he signed this summer and his tapping of the club badge was telling.

Carrick's smile when asked about Rangnick

Michael Carrick's reaction when asked about Ralf Rangnick suggests that playing poker probably isn't one of his past times.

With Rangnick's appointment now imminent, it was speculated that the German had influenced United's team selection versus Chelsea and, while Carrick denied that when asked by Sky's reporter, his little smile before answering perhaps hinted otherwise.

The MEN announced on Thursday that Rangnick had agreed terms with the club and that news has been warmly welcomed.

What McTominay said to the referee

McTominay wasn't happy with referee Anthony Taylor at Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder was judged to have fouled Marcos Alonso in the first half, but McTominay disagreed with that decision.

Taylor gave McTominay a yellow card for the foul and he furiously shouted back 'are you joking?' in the official's direction.
