Just days after Ronaldo Mulitalo withdrew from State of Origin over eligibility concerns, the young winger has confirmed he will never be allowed to play for Queensland.
The 21-year-old was set to make his debut in Queensland's 26-0 loss to NSW last Sunday at Lang Park, before the Blues camp protested his inclusion.
Mulitalo voluntarily pulled out of the match while rugby league officials decided if the New Zealand-born player would be allowed to play in the sport's main showpiece going forward.
He announced on his Twitter page that he has been told he cannot to play for the Maroons.
"I've officially been denied an exemption to represent Queensland going forward," he wrote.
"This isn't the way I pictured my time ending in the maroon jersey.
"Learnt many lessons in this journey but most importantly became a better man wearing this jersey. Here's to new opportunities."
To be eligible to play for Queensland or NSW in State of Origin you must have either been born in the state, lived in the state before your 13th birthday, or your father played State of Origin for one of the states.
While Mulitalo played for Queensland in both under-18s and under-20s — which would have made him eligible — the NSW Rugby League protested because he did not arrive in Queensland until he was 14.
Maroons coach Paul Green blamed the NRL for the debacle, as both contracts Mulitalo has signed for the Cronulla Sharks say he is eligible to play for Queensland.
"With all the information that was available to us, he was eligible to play," Green said.
"When he signed his last two (NRL) contracts, in that he signed his eligibility to say he was 'yes' for Queensland.
"We don't register the contracts. We're not part of that process. We just get a list (from the NRL) off the database, which says they're eligible."
NSW claimed the Origin shield on Sunday at Lang Park and will be attempting their first 3-0 series whitewash since 2000 when the final game is played in Sydney on July 14.
