Ronaldo, Maguire, Sancho - Manchester United injury round-up and return dates

Manchester United have been handed a quadruple boost on the selection front after Ralf Rangnick held his latest press conference.

During the first part of their double header against Aston Villa, the Old Trafford giants were without Harry Maguire, Phil Jones, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo through injury.

None of those issues were thought to be long-term and Rangnick has since provided an update on those four and it's good news for the quartet.

However, as United get ready to return to Premier League action at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon (5.30pm), they will be missing Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay through suspension as Eric Bailly finds himself on AFCON duty with the Ivory Coast.

Here is the current state of play on the treatment table at Carrington;

Phil Jones

Injury: Calf

Expected return date: January 15 vs Aston Villa

What Rangnick has said: "I wouldn't say they [Jones, Ronaldo and Sancho] are injured, but they do have muscular problems. Phil was having some minor problems with his calf. In a cup game it doesn't make any sense [to risk him]."

Harry Maguire

Injury: Ribs

Expected return date: January 15 vs Aston Villa

What Rangnick has said: "I think they will be available [Maguire, Jones, Ronaldo and Sancho]. They only trained yesterday for the first time. Cristiano yesterday, Harry the day before. We have to wait for the final training session this afternoon, but as it seems right now they should be available for Saturday."

Paul Pogba

Injury: Thigh

Return date: February 2022

What Rangnick has said: "As far as I know, I was told a week ago, it would be a minimum of at least another four or five weeks before he is fit for training again."

Cristiano Ronaldo

Injury: Back

Expected return date: January 15 vs Aston Villa

What Rangnick has said: "He said he had some problems for the last couple of days, minor spine problems and in the end we decided it would make more sense not to take any risks in a cup game that could last 120 minutes."

Where will United finish this season? Have your say in the comments section below.

Jadon Sancho

Injury: Hamstring(s)

Expected return date: January 15 vs Aston Villa

What Rangnick has said: "He was supposed to be in the squad [for the FA Cup tie], but he had some issues with hamstring on both sides, so it doesn't make sense to take any risks."
