Tottenham have been tipped to win this season’s Champions League by Brazil great Ronaldinho.
Spurs were longshots at the outset but head into the second leg of their quarter-final against Manchester City tomorrow night knowing a clean sheet will earn them a place in the last four, following their 1-0 victory at home last week.
Mauricio Pochettino was today deciding whether to take Dele Alli, who suffered a broken hand against City, and Harry Winks, who has a groin injury, for the showdown at Etihad Stadium.
Few would make Spurs favourites to lift the trophy yet Ronaldinho — who did so with Barcelona in 2006 — has been impressed by their progress.
He said: “Why can’t Spurs win the Champions League.? Because they don’t have the history in the competition or because they have never won it before? Every team who has won the Champions League had to win it for the first time once. Their result against Manchester City, who are one of the best teams and have some of the best players in the competition, showed that they can compete with the best.”
He told the Daily Star: “At this stage they will believe they can go all the way — and if they play as they can then maybe they will.”
