Ronald Waterreus on how his Rangers arrival held back 'unlucky' Allan McGregor

Ronald Waterreus reckons Allan McGregor’s big chance at Rangers would have come sooner had he not joined the club in 2005.

But the Dutchman was thrilled to see the Scot eventually grab his opportunity and is glad he’s still performing in a second Ibrox stint.

Alex McLeish signed Wattereus in an emergency on the final day of the January transfer window and dashed any hopes McGregor had of becoming No.1 at the time.

Wattereus said: “Allan was a young guy when I was at Rangers. He is an old guy now, right!

“I have followed his career as he is a really nice guy.

“He was maybe a bit unlucky that Rangers brought me in. He maybe felt that way back then but he’s still had a great career.”

Meanwhile, Michael Mols was gutted when Utrecht were priced out of a move for Alfredo Morelos after scouting him while he was at HJK Helsinki.

But the ex-Rangers star reckons his old club landed a bargain after shelling out £1.5million for the 29-goal hitman.

Mols knew Morelos had real potential after studying footage of him during his time in Finland in his capacity as a talent spotter for Utrecht.

The Dutchman admitted his only concern was whether the young Colombian could make the step up to a tougher league but believed he was worth the gamble.

He said: "I’m working as a scout for Utrecht and Morelos was in our sights a couple of years ago,

“We followed him through footage when he was in Finland and couldn’t afford him but the money Rangers got him for now looks like a bargain when you see the crazy transfer fees."
