Ronald Koeman offers Barcelona transfer hint amid links with Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has put pressure onto the club's heirachy to bring in transfers either this month or during the summer, admid their continuing links with Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum.

Wijnaldum is a player that Barcelona are keen on, and they have been able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement ahead of the summer with him since the beginning of January.

The La Liga giants are also thought to be interested in Man City defender Eric Garcia and Dutch winger Memphis Depay, another two players whose contracts expire in the summer.

But none of the trio have been lined up with deals yet and Barcelona would ideally have liked at least Garcia to be signed this month, rather than waiting until the end of the season.

"My position is known: we lack people, but the economic situation of the club is an influence," Koeman said.

"I think we all think the same. If no one arrives, I accept it and we continue the same.

"But if we want more we must sign."

Koeman was asked specifically about the decision of the Barcelona hierarchy to block a move for Garcia this month because of financial concerns.

He replied: "We cannot demand that the management board make decisions like this.

"We have concluded that if he is a player whose contract is ending, we must wait.

"If we moved now we would have to pay the transfer fee plus the player's salary."

As for Wijnaldum, the player put the ball firmly into Liverpool's court earlier this week.

"There is no update yet," he said on Thursday.

"I also think I am not the one who should give the update, the club should.

"If there will be an update the club will give it."
