Ronald Koeman criticism of no interest to Michael O'Neill ahead of Belfast showdown

Michael O'Neill has dismissed Ronald Koeman's criticism of Northern Ireland's style of play ahead of next week's meeting of the sides in Belfast.

Koeman branded Northern Ireland 's rearguard action in Rotterdam last month as “outrageous” and “terrible to watch”.

The Dutch came from behind to earn a late 3-1 win, after Josh Magennis had given the visitors a surprise lead at the De Kuip Stadium.

Afterwards Koeman said: “It is outrageous, the football they play, but it is allowed and they get the most out of their qualities. I respect that, but it is terrible to watch.”

O'Neill will renew rivalries with Koeman next week when the two nations meet in Belfast.

After , O'Neill played down the scathing criticism of the Dutch boss.

"I didn't find it particularly disrespectful, if I am being honest," O'Neill said. "It didn't give me a moment's concern.

"It was something I didn't well on. I answered a question on it, but I wouldn't have made any statement if I hadn't been asked.

"So it is not something I think is major.

"If you looked at the ball in play for the game in Rotterdam, I would imagine it wouldn't be any different to the stats for any other game the Netherlands have played.

"If there was a significance difference, he could well have a point.

"But at the end of the day we are not there to play a game to the benefit of the Dutch. We are there to try and get a result that will help us qualify for the Euro finals.

"That was obviously how we set out to play. Unfortunately we just came up short right at the death."

Northern Ireland entertain the Netherlands at Windsor Park on Saturday, November 16 before travelling to Frankfurt to play Germany in their final qualifier three days later.
