Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Ronald Jones feels like he’s got a coach under center in the offense. Tom Brady is a mentor and an endless resource for information on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to Jones.
“He always pulls us to the side and gives us things to look for,” Jones told reporters on Zoom Wednesday. “Even at practice, we’ll see a look and he’s like, ‘Yeah, expect this, too.’ It’s also like having another coach out there. You can never have too many words of wisdom from him.”
That’s long been the story with Brady, who once admitted he feels like he has the answers to the test when looking at defenses before the snap. It’s a part of what makes Brady so difficult to sync with. But it’s also what makes him a magical quarterback when he and a receiver develop a rapport. If a receiver takes care of the football, Brady will take care of the receiver.
It always seemed like Brady was interested in mentoring and tutoring his pass-catchers during training camp. Though Bill Belichick would echo — again and again — that coaches coach and players play. Brady would say the same thing. But it was apparent that Brady would give feedback on the field, with a constant flow of communication not unlike … coaching.
It’s likely Brady has always been like this, but Buccaneers players, who operate under a more relaxed media policy, are more eager to discuss it.
