Ron Rivera storms out of press conference after too many questions about Cam Newton

The Carolina Panthers are just a few days out of their Week 3 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals, and Cam Newton’s status for the game is still unknown.

After Ron Rivera said that he would make a determination Friday about Newton’s availability, reporters understandably had multiple follow-up questions about the Panthers quarterback’s health.

Rivera just didn’t want to hear it.

The Panthers coach reiterated that he wouldn’t know more about Newton until Friday and wanted to hear questions about the Arizona Cardinals. When that didn’t happen, Rivera stormed off from the podium and had some parting words for the gathered media.

Rivera said as he left:

“I just asked you to ask me questions about somebody else. I’m not going to do this anymore, OK? I told you: I won’t know anything until tomorrow. OK. Thank you. Golly.”

Rivera’s reaction may have been a bit much, but he did just say that he wasn’t going to answer any other questions about Newton. To have that immediately followed by a question about Newton, well, he didn’t appreciate that at all.

Newton has been dealing with a foot injury that could force second-year pro Kyle Allen to start on Sunday.
