It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the name of Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith is making the rounds during Super Bowl media availability.
Smith, after all, played a key role in helping along a rookie Patrick Mahomes before coming over to Washington and getting his shot to be the franchise quarterback for a new team.
And call it a similar situation for Smith, who is now tasked with doing much of the same thing for an impressionable Dwayne Haskins as he enters his sophomore year.
New Redskins coach Ron Rivera, after all, has stressed the leadership aspect of Haskins’ game since arriving.

No matter where Haskins is at in his development on and off the field, few could argue he isn’t in a better position now than before.
Just a year ago, Haskins wasn’t the first choice of his coach and allegedly wasn’t ready to get on the field before an interim coach got him out there and he showed slow progress.
Now Haskins has the backing of a coach like Rivera and the continued support of a quarterback like Smith, whose name keeps making waves during the Super Bowl week for a reason.
