Ron Rivera on Panthers QB situation: ‘I’m not going to worry about it’

Kyle Allen is no Cam Newton, but he’ll do for now. After today’s 37-26 win over the Buccaneers in London, Allen is now 5-0 starting at quarterback for the Panthers.

Any time a backup QB gets hot (or at least keeps winning) it seems a “controversy” gets manufactured by the media, whether it’s warranted or not. While we still believe a healthy Newton is Carolina’s best chance to win, if nothing else they can have confidence in Allen as one of the league’s better backups.

After the game, coach Ron Rivera said he’s not going to worry about any supposed QB dilemma.

Allen had a brilliant 2019 debut against the Cardinals in Arizona, throwing four touchdown passes. However, the Cards don’t have a good defense and Allen has shown some serious problems with fumbles.

Allen changed that narrative today, though. He didn’t cough the ball up once and continues to throw interception-less ball. He finished the game with 227 passing yards, two scores and a passer rating over 100.

The Panthers’ next game is in two weeks and Newton is out of his walking boot, so it will be interesting to see if he’s healthy enough to play against the 49ers after the bye.
