Ron Rivera offers no timetable for Ryan Fitzpatrick’s return

The Washington Football Team had high expectations in 2021 due to what many believed would be a top-five defense and veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Unfortunately for Washington, those hopes were dashed in the second quarter of its Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Fitzpatrick went down with a hip injury that was later ruled subluxation, or partially dislocated hip, and the timeline was around eight weeks.

Last month, head coach Ron Rivera offered an update on Fitzpatrick, saying he would undergo an MRI in two weeks, and then the team would go from there.

Over two weeks later, Rivera was asked about Fitzpatrick after Wednesday’s practice and said that while Fitzpatrick’s injury showed “some progress,” there was still no timetable for his return.

This was probably not the update Washington fans or Fitzpatrick wanted. With eight games remaining, there isn’t a lot of time for Fitzpatrick to help Washington in 2021. At 2-6 on the season with a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Washington desperately needs to win some games now to get back into playoff contention.

It looks like Taylor Heinicke’s show for the foreseeable future.
