Ron Rivera needs to find his next special TE

Washington Redskins head coach Ron Rivera has never had a big problem with a lack of talent at the tight end position.

After all, in Carolina, Rivera got to lean on a consistent star in the form of Greg Olsen.

In Washington, no such guarantee exists. Jordan Reed is injury prone and while the rest of the depth chart offers upside here and there, it’s nothing like having a consistent performer like an Olsen.

So where does Rivera go out and get what he needs, with the emphasis being consistently to help develop Dwayne Haskins?

The first-round pick is out this year, as they aren’t drafting one at No. 2. That leaves the second round, but at that point, both Brycen Hopkins and Hunter Bryant could be off the board.

If not the draft, perhaps free agency? Jimmy Graham might end up being a name to consider. Otherwise, the top names set to hit the market offer upside but little in the way of consistency thanks to guys like Eric Ebron, Tyler Eifert and Hunter Henry.

It’s not a reassuring outlook by any means, but it should prove fun to sit back and watch how Rivera goes about tackling the problem. How he does could decide quite a lot.
