Ron Rivera: I could have worked with Dave Gettleman again

Ron Rivera was never seriously considered for the New York Giants head coaching job for multiples reasons. Primarily, the Washington Redskins didn’t really give the Giants — or any team looking for a new head coach — any daylight when it came to rolling him in.

As soon as the season ended, Washington pounced on Rivera, who was free to sign with any team since he was fired by the Carolina Panthers in early December.

There was speculation that Rivera was not high on Giants general manager Dave Gettleman’s list of head coaching candidates due to the circumstances of Gettleman’s departure from Carolina in 2017.

This is not coming from Rivera’s side, however. He had no issues with Gettleman, who actually kept him on when he took over the team in 2013. Rivera had a 13-19 record over his first two seasons before Gettleman took the reins as Panthers’ GM.
