Ron Rivera hung a special American flag behind him during virtual NFL Draft

An image of Washington Redskins head coach Ron Rivera created some buzz on social media during the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. During a live-shot of the draft process, Rivera was shown sitting in front of a large Redskins banner, with an American flag hanging next to it.

ESPN personality Katie Nolan originally posted a screen-grab of the image, noting the irony of a flag hanging next to what some consider a controversial image of the Redskins mascot, noting that “it’s like hanging a photo of your late dog next to a photo of the car that hit him.”

Courtney Rivera, who is Ron’s daughter, took it upon herself to make sure everyone knew how important that specific flag was hanging next to her father.

According to Courtney, the flag was given to their family by the soldiers of the 82nd Airborne from Fort Bragg as a gift, one that they had with them in the Middle East. He hung it in clear view as an ode to them.

Rivera is nothing but a military man and a man who will bring a lot of honor to Washington.
