Ron Rivera has interesting comment about rookie QB Dwayne Haskins

Ron Rivera was introduced as the newest head coach of the Washington Redskins on Thursday afternoon, and he answered several questions from the media after giving a short opening statement on the need for a culture shift and implementation of discipline in the franchise.

While many comments were made about building a winning culture and getting the Redskins back to the glory days of success, one particular question centered around Washington’s rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins, and what Rivera had seen from him in his first season in the NFL.

Of course, Rivera answered that he was impressed with the rookie’s skill-set, but his final comment on the matter seemed to leave a door partially open.

Rivera made sure to say that it doesn’t just happen for a young player to find success overnight, and he mentioned the growth that Haskins experienced throughout his rookie year. But still, he did mention that veteran players still factor into the role as well.

Could this leave a door open for Alex Smith? Are there other veteran QBs that Rivera has his eye on? All of that is unclear at the moment, but it seemed like a strange thing to say while being introduced as the future coach of a franchise.
