Ron Rivera gives an update on rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr.

It’s been over one week since Washington Commanders rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr. was shot twice in an attempted robbery. Fortunately, Robinson was fine, considering what could’ve been. However, Robinson was hospitalized and showed up at the team’s headquarters just two days after he was shot.

The shooting occurred just two days before NFL teams were to trim their rosters down to 53 players. The Commanders initially included Robinson on the 53-man roster but placed him on the NFI (non-football injury) list later in the week.

On Monday, the Commanders returned to practice, and Robinson’s condition was a primary topic at his post-practice press conference.

“There is a process, a number of steps that he’ll have to go through and really just to show [head trainer] Al [Bellamy] and the doctors that he’s ready to play,” Rivera said.

Understandably, Rivera doesn’t have a timeline for Robinson’s return, but the team has a plan in place.

“Those first few days of recovery were tough on him because I think it was the second day he was really sore and it was one of those things that, you know, I told him, ‘Hey, just stay home, relax a little bit, and we’ll come get you pretty soon,” Rivera said.

“As he goes through this process the timeline in terms of his daily workout schedule and recovery schedule will change.”

While there is optimism that Robinson will return sometime soon after Week 4, there are currently a lot of unknowns. The Commanders certainly aren’t going to rush Robinson’s return to action.
