Ron Gordon honoured in unique Hibs challenge as fans get chance to play with heroes during 24 hour contest

Hibs supporters have the chance to play alongside their heroes in a 24-hour challenge in honour of the club’s late owner Ron Gordon.

The Ron Gordon 24-Hour Football Challenge, to be held over Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25, will raise money for the Hibernian Community Foundation. Chief Executive Ben Kensell said: “We’re delighted to launch the 24-Hour Football Challenge, as it’s a challenge that really epitomises our late executive chairman. Ron was an extremely passionate man and someone who cared dearly about the role the football club plays in the local community.

“We want to create something special, and something that carries on the legacy of a great man, by bringing supporters and people together, right to the heart of the football club, to raise money for the Hibernian Community Foundation. I think this challenge is really exciting and could be really testing, especially for those playing at 3am or 4am.

"But ultimately it’ll be a good laugh for everyone. It will bring the football club, the supporters, and the Community Foundation all together.”

The 24-hour game will take place at Hibs Training Centre in Ormiston Supporters can play for one-hour or longer for the price of £15 an hour. They will be managed by either a men’s or women’s first team player.

Money raised will pay for community lunches for those struggling most with the cost-of-living crisis. Over 100 elderly people, families, lone parents, registered disabled people will be supported each week with the provision of hot lunches served in the stadium for the next year.
