A massive fire ripped through a luxury car dealership in east London in the early hours today.
At the height of the fire, 125 firefighters were called to Imperials, a high-end car dealership in High Road, Romford.
According to its website, it sells high-end vehicles including Ferraris, Bentleys and Lamborghinis.
Crews were first called just after 10pm on Saturday and were still at the scene on Sunday morning. Huge plumes of smoke were still visible.
London Fire Brigade said 100 car tyres, some parked cars and a workshop had set alight. There were no injuries.
Quick-thinking firefighters had managed to save 20 cars from the blaze and potentially prevent a huge explosion.
Station manager Paul Eastland said: "In the early stages of this fire, they were able to make the area safe enough for many of the cars at the dealership to be driven out of harm's way.
"This stopped them being an explosion risk but it also saved many thousands of pounds worth of vehicle damage. They also removed a number of cylinders which can also explode when exposed to heat.
"The fire spread to a pile of tyres and is creating a lot of thick black smoke and I would avoid the area if you can and keep your windows and doors shut if you live locally.”
The Standard was not able to reach Imperials for comment.
