Romeo Okwara: Re-signing with the Lions a ‘simple decision’

Romeo Okwara made it clear in his press conference on Wednesday afternoon, in case anyone doubted. He prioritized returning to Detroit even though he was an unrestricted free agent.

Okwara officially inked his new contract, worth $39 million over three years, on Wednesday and subsequently met with reporters via Zoom.

He quickly noted that staying in Detroit and being with the new energy of coach Dan Campbell was a “simple decision”. Okwara also admitted that playing with his brother, Julian, was also a big factor in a return for more in Detroit.

Okwara plans on showing more versatility in the new scheme under coordinator Aaron Glenn. He said he expects to play both standing up as an EDGE as well as with a hand in the dirt as a more traditional DE.
