Romeo Beckham takes on sumo wrestler in Japan amid family feud

Romeo Beckham put the drama of his family’s ongoing feud to one side at the weekend as he took on a very different challenge — stepping into a sumo wrestling ring in Tokyo.

The 23-year-old model is currently travelling across Japan with girlfriend Kim Turnbull, as the wider Beckham clan appears keen to press on following Brooklyn’s public estrangement, recently laid bare in a six-page post detailing his grievances with his parents.

Romeo and Turnbull made a stop at Tokyo’s historic Tatsunami sumo stable, located in the city’s Taitō ward. Founded in 1876, the 150-year-old training house is regarded as one of Japan’s most prestigious sumo institutions, home to elite wrestlers competing at the highest level of the sport.

During the visit, Romeo gamely attempted to test his strength against Mongolian professional Hōshōryū Tomokatsu — the sport’s 74th yokozuna, its most senior rank. Unsurprisingly, the bout ended swiftly, with Romeo lifted clean off his feet and forced to concede defeat to the amusement of onlookers.

Sharing footage on Instagram, Romeo appeared to take the experience in good humour, while the Tatsunami stable also posted clips from the encounter. However, the official account mistakenly referred to Turnbull as Romeo’s “wife” in its caption.

“Today, Romeo Beckham and his wife came to watch our practice,” the post read. “They were very friendly and chatted with the wrestlers. Thank you very much for coming. Enjoy your travels in Japan!”

The couple’s Far East trip comes shortly after they supported Romeo’s mother, Victoria Beckham, at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, where she was awarded the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters on January 26 — one of France’s most prestigious cultural honours.

Brooklyn, 25, was notably absent from the celebrations, opting instead to remain in the US with his heiress wife Nicola Peltz.

His decision follows a string of high-profile family events he has reportedly skipped, including David Beckham’s 50th birthday and the UK launch of Victoria’s Netflix series.

Despite the tension, the Beckhams presented a united front in Paris, marking their first public appearance since Brooklyn’s statement.

The family has otherwise remained silent as Brooklyn alleged he had been “controlled by a family that values public promotion above all else,” also levelling claims about his wedding.
