Romelu Lukaku’s agent has revealed the striker was already eyeing up a move to Stamford Bridge during his final season at Manchester United.
Lukaku made his return to London during the summer after Chelsea met Inter Milan’s £97million asking price, with the forward making the move just two years on from leaving Old Trafford.
The Belgian’s departure from United came following a season that saw his place in the side questioned as he lost form and confidence.
And it seems his mind may have been elsewhere during his final campaign with United, with Lukaku’s agent revealing he was already plotting his next move long before he exited Old Trafford.
“During his last season at Man United he always had Chelsea in his head,” Federico Pastorello told Sky Sports.
“Real Madrid as well I have to admit. That is another dream of his in terms of imagining his career, but Chelsea was always 100 per cent his target.
“They were the love of his childhood so there was always this desire to come back. It was a question of pride. He had that in his head and his heart.”
Having left United in 2019, Lukaku rediscovered his scoring touch with Inter, with his form in Italy leading to him being linked with moves elsewhere.
With the Serie A champions facing financial problems, they agreed to let him to return to west London, despite Lukaku having been settled in Italy.
“The market can offer you certain opportunities,” Pastorello added. “I consider them like trains passing and when the right train stops at the right place, you need to step in and leave.
“I could tell summer 2021 would be an important market for him. Three or four top clubs were looking for important strikers and on the market there was not one for each club.”
