Romelu Lukaku transfer: Man Utd striker worried Inter Milan move will be blocked

Romelu Lukaku is worried that a summer move to Inter Milan won’t happen - because Manchester United will price him out of a switch.

The Belgian international striker moved to Old Trafford in a £75million deal from Everton in 2017.

But he is ready to leave after being told he is surplus to requirements under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Inter are closing on Antonio Conte as their new manager, and the Italian is keen to link up with Lukaku - having been blocked from signing him at Chelsea two years ago.

Inter have agreed to take over Lukaku’s £175,000-a-week salary and had been hoping to sign the 26-year-old for a fee in the region of £50million.

But that figure is far less than United are willing to accept.

Executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, is ready to play hardball over a player whose value he believes has not substantially decreased after 42 goals in 96 games for United.

Lukaku only started 15 of 29 games under Solskjaer following the Norwegian’s arrival as Jose Mourinho’s replacement in December, but Woodward wants a figure closer to £70million to part with Belgium’s record scorer.

Alongside Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia - who have already departed as free transfers - Solskjaer is ready to offload Lukaku, Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo and Juan Mata.

Mata will leave United on a free like Herrera, who has joined Paris Saint Germain.

Injury-hit Rojo will also be sold, to make space for a new centre-half, while Matteo Darmian is also set to depart.

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly tops United's wishlist in defence, but Napoli continue to insist he's going nowhere.

Crystal Palace ’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Swansea’s Daniel James and prolific Lille striker Nicolas Pepe are all among Solskjaer’s targets, as is Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The France international hasn't played for his club since December.
