Romelu Lukaku tipped to beat Cristiano Ronaldo to major Premier League accolade for Chelsea

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is already tipped to become Premier League top goalscorer this season ahead of new Manchester United acquisition Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar’s return to England was confirmed on Friday evening, with the Red Devils announcing that they have reached an agreement with Juventus for his transfer.

His move is certainly a surprising one, having also been linked with a switch to United’s great rivals Manchester City.

Intriguingly, Ronaldo’s transfer is also the same move that Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku made this summer too, with the Belgian becoming the Blues' record signing in a £97million deal from Serie A champions Inter Milan.

There will therefore be parallels drawn between the two considering that path, and also their direct competition for the top-scorer award in Italy for the last two seasons.

Indeed, the Portuguese star ran out victorious last term with his 29 league goals, securing the Capocannoniere award, with Ciro Immobile having claimed the gong for the previous campaign.

However, it is Lukaku who is more fancied this time around though.

According to Betfair, the former Manchester United and Everton frontman sits at odds of 3/1 to win the Premier League golden boot this season, whilst Ronaldo sits slightly further behind at a price of 5/1.

Lukaku already managed to get off to a quick start on the race for the award having netted on his debut in a 2-0 win against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

As it stands, West Ham United forward Michail Antonio sits atop the standings with three goals to his name after just two matches of the season. He is level with Ronaldo’s new Red Devils’ teammate Bruno Fernandes.
