Romelu Lukaku scores on Inter Milan debut as they thump Lecce in Serie A opener

Romelu Lukaku got his Inter Milan career off to a flyer by scoring on his competitive debut.

The Belgian forward moved to the San Siro in a £73 million switch from Man Utd earlier this month.

And he was included in his new sides starting line up for their opening Serie A clash, as Inter made light work of Lecce.

Lukaku has linked up with ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte at the Nerrazurri, and the Italian saw his team make an immediate statement with a 4-0 victory.

A superb curling effort from Marcelo Brozovic and Stefano Sensi's strike gave the hosts a two-goal advantage, before Lukaku got on the scoresheet.

He controlled well to tee up Lautaro Martinez for a shot from distance, who saw his effort fumbled by Lecce keeper Gabriel.

But Lukaku was on hand to follow up and side-foot home right on the hour mark.

Lecce had Diego Farias sent off with just under a quarter of an hour to play befoe Antonio Candreva sealed Inter's win with a fourth.

The win saw Inter shoot straight to the top of the Serie A table after the first round of fixtures, with an away trip to Cagliari next up on September 1.

Lukaku's goal saw him carry on an impressive record of scoring on his debut for each of his last four clubs - West Brom, Everton , Man Utd and Inter.

He could yet be joined at his new club by ex-United teammate Alexis Sanchez before the Italian transfer window shuts next week.

Sanchez' future at United looks uncertain with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in attack.

Inter are rumoured to be interested in taking the Chilean on an initial loan deal, which would see United subsidise some of his £500k-per-week wages.

The deal could also involve an option to buy Sanchez next summer for a fee believed to be around £14 million.
