Romelu Lukaku scores four goals on Inter Milan debut as his new side stroll to 8-0 victory

Romelu Lukaku has made a positive start to his time in Italy by scoring four goals in his very first match for new team Inter Milan.

The £74m signing from Manchester United showed why he may be worth the money by providing a finishing master-class during an 8-0 thrashing of Serie D side Virtus Bergamo.

It was Lukaku's first match of pre-season after he failed to feature in United's tour of Australia and Asia ahead of the move to Italy, although he did train with his old side Anderlecht while trying to get match fit.

Matias Vecino and Sebastiano Esposito added braces to Lukaku's four strikes to ensure it was a comfortable run-out for Inter.

Although Inter were clearly up against far inferior opponents, the four goals can have done nothing to harm Lukaku's confidence ahead of the start of the new Serie A season.

Inter kick off their campaign at home against Lecce on Monday August 26, and Lukaku will expect to start and make his competitive debut for the club.

He didn't appear to be too missed by United, however, with his former team beating Chelsea 4-0 on the first day of the season.

Marcus Rashford appeared to relish leading the line, scoring twice in the win, and for now it appears United are coping well without Lukaku's goals.

Ex-United manager Jose Mourinho, who was working as a pundit for Sky Sports backed Rashford to shine in Lukaku's absence, saying: "He has to score more than 10 goals especially without Lukaku.

"I believe this season he has a big opportunity to be a better player and score more goals."

Lukaku will be aiming to better the 12 goals he scored in the Premier League for United last season in his first campaign in Serie A, with Inter expected to challenge Juventus for the title and attempt end the Old Lady's remarkable record of winning eight Scudettos in a row.
