Romelu Lukaku's five-word verdict on Chelsea win as plan after £97.5m transfer is revealed

It was a watching brief for Chelsea's record-signing Romelu Lukaku on Saturday afternoon.

And it turned out to be pleasant viewing for the £97.5m summer signing as the Blues kicked off their Premier League campaign with an emphatic 3-0 win over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

Goals from Marcos Alonso, Christian Pulisic and Trevoh Chalobah ensured Chelsea put down a marker of their own in regards to the title race.

Furthermore, following victory over Villarreal on penalties in the UEFA Super Cup earlier in the week, it has certainly been a fine start to the new season for Thomas Tuchel's side and there is more to come.

One would imagine that addition of Lukaku will only make the current Champions League holders even stronger as he could be the perfect signing for the German tactician.

However, Tuchel had to make do without the former Inter Milan and Manchester United striker against the Eagles.

The reason for Lukaku's absence was because he arrived in England on Wednesday to seal his move but had to enter a five-day period of self-isolation as he travelled from a country – Italy – that is currently on the British government's amber list.

Not that it mattered too much and it gave the 28-year-old a chance to assess his new teammates.

And it would appear that he was rather impressed after taking to social media at the final whistle to deliver a five-word verdict on the result and performance against Palace.

"Well done boys! Good start!" Lukaku wrote on Twitter.

Whilst Lukaku watched from afar as the Blues beat Palace, he is expected to make his second debut for the club against Arsenal next weekend.

"We were not fast enough so that he could play on Wednesday or tomorrow," Tuchel explained when speaking to the press on Friday afternoon.

"Romelu is still on quarantine and following the protocols. He will be out on Monday and undertake training with us next week. He will play for us against Arsenal. This is the plan."
