Here are your Chelsea morning headlines on Monday, August 9.

Romelu Lukaku announcement imminent

The Belgian striker is set to arrive in London today ahead of his record-breaking transfer to Chelsea.

Lukaku is returning to Stamford Bridge after seven years, after Inter Milan agreed to sell their talisman in a deal worth around £98million.

With personal terms all done, his unveiling as a Blues player is expected within the next 24 hours.

Chelsea hope the deal will be completed in time to name the 28-year-old in their squad for the UEFA Super Cup match against Villarreal on Wednesday night.

Lukaku deal scuppers Spurs’ plans for Martinez

While Romelu Lukaku will boost Chelsea’s chances of success this season, the move’s knock-on effect may well have foiled Tottenham’s.

football.london understands that earlier this week, Spurs agreed a fee worth more than €60 million with Inter for their other star striker, Lautaro Martinez.

But with Lukaku’s deal now done, the Milan club are unwilling to let the Argentine, who has also attracted interest from Arsenal, go.

This all comes at a pivotal time for Spurs, who wanted to sign Martinez as a replacement for wantaway striker Harry Kane.

Mourinho wants Abraham

It looks set to be one striker in, one striker out at Stamford Bridge, with Tammy Abraham set to call time on his 17-year-old association with Chelsea.

Being a promising and prolific 23-year-old, Abraham has already attracted much interest from clubs around Europe, including Arsenal, and now he can add Jose Mourinho’s Roma to that list.

The former Chelsea boss is keen to work with the Englishman and is viewed as the long-term successor to Edin Dzeko, who is set to depart to Inter as a potential replacement for Lukaku.
