Romelu Lukaku names best young player at Manchester United

Former Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has described Mason Greenwood as the best young player coming through the ranks.

The Belgian striker, who left United in the last summer transfer window in a £75million move to Inter Milan, only played with Greenwood briefly last season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer effectively chose Greenwood as Lukaku's replacement, promoting the teenager to the first team picture after his impressive displays for the Under-18s and Under-23s.

Greenwood and Lukaku never started a game together for Solskjaer's side, but were on the pitch at the end of United's famous Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain a year ago - and in a Premier League defeat to Arsenal.

Lukaku will have trained with Greenwood on numerous occasions and in a Q&A session with fans on Twitter, the Inter striker was asked: "best young player at United?"

He replied: "Greenwood that boy coldddddd" followed by a "100 per cent" emoji.

Lukaku may not have seen eye to eye with Solskjaer over matters at United, but his words echo what the Norwegian thinks of Greenwood.

Back in December, Solskjaer spoke about how the 18-year-od is a natural finisher.

On Greenwood, he said: “Scoring goals is just natural for him.

"If the defender closes his legs, he’ll bend it in the top corner instead. At the last minute he changes his mind from ‘I’ll curl it’, to cutting back through his legs."

“I don’t think he knows," he added on which of Greenwood's feet is stronger.

"He takes penalties with his right and free-kicks with his left. With Mason, he can cut it back to his right foot, or he can curl it round you into the far corner. He’ll make a decision there and then, in a split second, whether he’ll bend it or put it through your legs."
